THINGS TO DO

Check out the favorite attractions of our area.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Long ago dinosaurs roamed the area around Glen Rose and left lasting impressions in what is now the bed of the Paluxy River. Visitors are able to walk in these same tracks while swimming in the cool river, hiking or biking the 20 miles of trails, or just enjoying the amazing views. Be sure to check their website for all current trail status and dinosaur track visibility.

Fossil Rim

This 1800 acre park is host to over 50 native and non-native animal species and is the first facility of its kind to be accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. While driving through the park, visitors enjoy some of the most picturesque views in the area as well as up close encounters with giraffes, zebra and various species of deer.

Historical Downtown Glen Rose

This beautiful downtown square is still the heart and soul of Glen Rose. The courthouse was built in 1893 and the community simply grew around it. Enjoy boutique and antique shopping at one of the many stores, grab a coffee or a bite to eat or hang out with an oversize statue of John Wayne by famous artist Robert Summers. He also created the bronze statue in the square, "Barnard's on the Brazos - First Family of Glen Rose."

The Paluxy River

With its rocky bottom and sandy shores, the clear water of the Paluxy is the perfect place to cool off in the Texas heat. It is accessible at several area parks or just ask us about our favorite swim holes.

Wheeler Branch Park

This county park features a reservoir stocked with a variety of fish. There are also numerous covered picnic benches, and a large covered pavilion. Come enjoy a picnic lunch then take a hike around the trail or swim in the beach area out to the floating dock island. Be sure to check out their website for fees and park rules.

Big Rocks Park

Located a short walk from historic downtown, Big Rocks Park is named after the unusually large rocks on the banks of the Paluxy River. Visitors are free to climb and explore the rocks, wade in the shallow spots or swim in the river. Free admission.
